The Story of how Dotcasting Began

Frequently Asked Questions

Find Answers to General Questions

Q: So, how much does a membership cost?

A:  It is a nominal annual fee of $100 a year for Talent.

Q: Why don't we charge commission like other agencies?

A:  It’s very hard for Talent of all kinds to make a paid career for themselves in the Middle East.  If dotcasting offer as many opportunities as possible, we end up growing the industry from within.

We believe that Talent should be paid in full and on time.  They have the skills needed to be the best they can be, we simply provide them the opportunities.

That’s what makes us different from the other agencies.

Q: How do I apply to join dotcasting?

A: It’s as simple as entering your details on the landing page, building your 3Dimensional professional portfolio then subscribing a 12 month subscription.

Q: What makes dotcasting different to the other agencies?

A:  We are building the industry from solid foundations in the Middle East – we aren’t profit driven, we are a passionate collective of industry professionals.  We focus on training our talent and securing opportunities in the industry both local and international through our network.  Simply look at our credentials to see what we have achieved since 2010.

All we ask from you is to spread our word, voice your beliefs in what we are offering and build the network to benefit everyone.

Q: What is the process of a casting – from the Talent side?

A: Our client searches through our database.

  • Then shortlist the profiles of the Talent suitable for their job.
  • Those shortlisted Talent are then sent to Dot and her team.
  • We contact the Talent for availability, once confirmed we deliver these direct to our client.
  • The Talent then read the supplied briefs, scripts, gig details and get prepared.
Q: What is the process of applying for a job?

A: Search through the job section on the site.

Select the jobs you are suitable for and want to be a part of, we recommend you only apply for the positions you are suitable for.

These get sent to the client directly.

The client will be sent a mail highlighting the interest.

If they choose you selection will be as the ‘process of a casting’ above.

Q: What must I wear to a casting?

A: I will always tell you prior to casting, what you should wear. Avoid solid whites, luminous colours, and busy patterns. Wear nice, comfortable clothes in solid colours (blue/red/green) or neutral tones.
If you do not feel comfortable in the clothing, it will show.

Jeans are a gamble. Wear them only if they are clean and if they are appropriate for the role.  Some casting directors don't like jeans and others don't mind. You have to decide if you are willing to take that chance with your first impression. For guys, a collared shirt is always a good idea or if you have a nicely toned physique a body- hugging Tee Shirt will be fine.

Clothing should be comfortable enough to allow you to move without feeling constrained.

The fit and colours should flatter your skintone and body type.

For actors:
If you are auditioning for the part of a doctor, wear something white, loose and casual. If you are auditioning for a seductive role, wear something elegant that shows off your figure.
If you do not feel comfortable in the clothing, it will show.

Take with a prop to the casting to make your character more believable, like a hat, cane,
tennis racket, guitar, whistle, scarf etc.

Dramatic Roles: Don't wear heavy mascara if you going to cry... It will ALWAYS run!

Q: What happens when I get the part?

A: There is often very little notice given to the agency when you're chosen. I should have your correct details on file so I can call you at any time. It's imperative that you notify me of new contact information.

I’ll always try to give you as much notice as possible. Full details of the location,

call time and dress code as soon as we have been given them shall be given to you.

A gig can vary in length depending whether a film shoot, photo shoot, music gig etc, but it's important that you make yourself available for the entire day, freeing yourself of all work commitments and appointments.

Do not apply for a job or attend to a casting if you have a vacation booked soon after – if you get the gig, it’ll be a tough and possibly expensive decision to make.

Q: How does payment work?

A:  All our Talent get paid within 30 days after successful completion of the particular job.  Our clients on registration all confirm an agreement they will pay you within this timeframe.

Most payments are by cheque or bank transfer– or if you want to discuss other means please contact our team.

Q: Who can register on the website?

A:  Anybody who is considered Talent.  You do not need to be a professional, or even have experience – this can be built over time and through our support partners.

Q: How do I know when I need to renew my subscription?

A: Our team will send you reminders to renew subscription via email so that you can continue usage of your membership.  You’ll save money over the year if you buy a 12 month subscription, however this is your call to make.  You will not be able to search or be offered jobs without an active subscription.

Q: How do I make my payment?

A: All membership payments can be made securely through PayPal (which is considered the world’s most secure online payment method) or personally via an appointment where the annual fee can be paid (plus 20% administration fee), in the form of cash or cheque made payable to MEDIACUBED FZ LLC.  If payments are made personally then you will need to wait a maximum of 24 hours for complete account activation.

Q: Is my personal contact information protected?

A: Yes, each individual’s details are only accessed by me and my team. Third parties cannot contact you directly for any jobs, or find out any of your contact information – your security and privacy is a fundamental priority.

Q: Are there any basic guidelines to follow?

A:  Please keep to these basic rules and guidelines:

  1. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you arrive at jobs and castings ON TIME .
  2. If you cannot make it to a casting or job youMUST let the client know immediately, by a telephone call, do not SMS, send an email – be professional at all times.  Keep phoning until you get through to the correct person.  You can always phone the venue, if you lose a number.
  3. Request from the client a timesheet to sign at the end of each day worked – make sure you get a signed copy too.
  4. Take snacks/drinks/food along. Do not rely on clients to feed you on jobs although most of them do,
if you are booked all day. Clients cannot be expected to supply food for those with special dietary needs.
  5. It is your responsibility to be considerate of others on location regardless of the gig, as poor conduct could result in the loss of future contracts for you and dotcasting.co – please consider yourselves representatives of dotcasting, and spread our positive word. We are doing all we can to provide you the opportunities you need.
  6. dotcasting reserves the right to remove anyone from our website. dotcasting are respected in the industry fordisplaying highly accurate details of all their people, so please be honest, it’ll help you.
  7. 7. Poor, or rude conduct displayed by any Talent towards any client or dotcasting agency member, may result in permanent eviction from our network and community. The agency’s decision is final.
  8. Finally, we’d like to recap the essence of what we are about and that’s building a Talent Community, allowing you to Brand Yourself. Be positive, share the wealth, support our industry and be the very best you can be.
Q: What happens if I don’t turn up to a casting or confirmed gig?

A:  If you don’t turn up to a casting and you haven’t informed the company directly with sufficient time, then you should consider this unprofessionalism and respect dotcasting will issue a final warning (written or not).

If you fail to turn up for a confirmed gig then you will be removed from the dotcasting book.  We cannot and will not accept unprofessionalism.  Dotcasting provide all the support and tools to build the industry for Talent in the region, without complete support we will not support this attitude.

We are being very firm with this.  It’s incredibly important you take your passion seriously, if you are not committed then dotcasting.co is not the platform for you.
